Neighborhoods Are Uniting to Green Communities
Volunteers Needed
On April 24, 2010, five Denver neighborhoods will partner with Greenprint Denver to bring energy efficiency services and weatherization upgrades to their community. Volunteers will go door-to-door to offer residents a free CFL porch light bulb, free curbside recycling registration, junk mail reduction, income-qualifying weatherization services, and sign-up for Xcel’s Windsource program or subsidized home energy audits.

Participate in Green Building Week – join the U.S. Green Building Council for a tour of the Wellington Webb Municiple Building.
The Wellington Webb Municipal Building is both Energy Star® and LEED-EB® Gold certified, a recognition obtained in 2007 following a pilot project to certify Denver’s first city facility under the U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design for Existing Buildings program.
The LEED-EB high-performance rating system applies to green building operations and maintenance. It evaluates criteria related to a building’s location, exterior maintenance, water and energy efficiency, material and resource use, indoor environmental quality, occupancy comfort, and sustainability innovations.

Short conference sessions will offer practical tips for preserving our environment both at home and at work, and described ways you can help achieve the Greening Government goals for reduction in energy, water, paper, waste and petroleum use.
Whatever the event is that you are planning, you have opportunities to make a positive difference for the environment. Event planners are the central figures in any event, affecting the choices and experiences of suppliers, facilities, caterers, sponsors and attendees.
This Colorado Sustainable Events Guide was designed for hosts and planners to help lessen negative impacts on the environment and make a positive contribution to your event. The content of this guide is drawn from best practices researched and the experience gained by the local Denver Greening Initiative of the 2008 Democratic National Convention. It features ideas and case studies to get any event planner started selecting green event locations, reducing waste and recovering resources, minimizing energy use and greenhouse gas emissions, moving away from single-use plastic water bottles, and educating participants.
